Online Requirements

Online Requirements

Sufficient technology is required to complete online courses at the Institute for Brain Education. While tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices may allow for some completion of coursework, they are not guaranteed to work in all areas. The following is required:


Hardware

  • Windows or Macintosh based computer

  • Screen resolution (size) set at minimum to 1024 x 768 or higher

  • Intel Core 2 Duo — or AMD — 3 GHz processor

  • 4 GB of RAM

  • Hard drive: 160 GB minimum

  • Graphics card and monitor capable of 1024x768 display

  • Stereo sound card, speakers and/or headset, microphone

  • Webcam (Recommended)

Operating Systems

  • Windows 10 or higher

  • Macintosh OS Big Sur, iPad OS 14

Software

  • Microsoft Office 2019 (Windows) or Microsoft Office 2019 (Macintosh)

  • Anti-virus package and a firewall (Recommended)

  • Security software (Recommended) Internet Access

  • ISP account for Internet access

  • A valid email account

  • To view all the resources uploaded to Moodle, you will probably need to have Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or an equivalent (e.g. Open Office, Viewer) installed.

Internet Browsers

  • Google Chrome 8x or later (recommended for optimal compatibility, this has been thoroughly tested on Windows)

  • Safari 14 or later (recommended for optimal compatibility, this has been thoroughly tested on Mac)

Internet Browser Settings

  • Pop-Up Blocker should be disabled

  • Java Script should be enabled

  • Java should be enabled

  • Cookies should be enabled Plug-ins

Internet Speed

  • Use a broadband connection through USB wireless modem, ADSL2+, T1/T2, fiber optic or cable with the speed:

    • Viewing lecture recordings or conferencing - at least 5MB/sec

    • Viewing images and webpages - at least 2MB/sec

  • Dial-up access will be significantly slower, and we do not recommend it for using Moodle.
